Battle of the Soursop Drinks: Sagiko vs Pokka

If you have read my post about Locally Blended Juice Drinks, you would know that I like Guyabano juice. That's why when I saw these two at Robinson's Supermarket, I didn't think twice about buying and trying them out.

I got the 320 mL can of Sagiko Soursop Juice Drink for 34.75 Php.

A can of Pokka Soursop Juice Drink only contains 300 mL, but I got it for the higher price of 39.25 Php.

Sagiko is a product of Vietnam, while Pokka is a product of Malaysia. You can also check the distributors, manufacturers and importers on the photos above.

Here's the list of ingredients for Sagiko Soursop Juice Drink.

Pokka Soursop Juice Drink has pretty much the same list of ingredients.

Here are the nutritional facts of the two drinks. Sagiko has more calories, carbohydrates and vitamin C, while Pokka has a bit more sugar and a lot more sodium.

The expiry dates of both drinks are on the bottom of the cans.

Sagiko is meant to be chilled. Pokka, on the otherhand, claims to be the no. 1 non chilled juice.

Sagiko has a smooth, light, watery texture. It also has tiny amount of fruit pulps or bits. It is almost like an extremely watered down puree. The color of the juice is a bit cloudy and off-white with a little yellowish undertone. It has a strong sweet guyabano scent. Despite that, it actually has a weak taste. It's more like a lighter or a bit more bland guyabano juice. It's not unpleasant. The natural sour-sweet, fruity, juicy guyabano taste is still detectable. It's not overly sweet or flavored artificially.

Pokka also has that light, watery scent, but unlike Sagiko, this one leaves a rough feeling on the tongue. It has a cloudy off white color, too, but the undertone is a bit more yellow orange. It smells completely different from the other one, it has a thick guyabano scent, but there's also an artificial sweetener scent colliding with it. It has the sour-sweet guyabano taste, but with a tinge of bitterness and an extra sweet aftertaste. I find it weird.

If I have to choose between the two, it would definitely be Sagiko. To be honest, I didn't even get to finish up my Pokka drink, even though it's still tolerable and I could have easily pushed myself. It's just really far from my liking.

I'm glad that I gave them a try, but I guess I'll just stick with Locally Blended Juice Drink in Guyabano. So far, it's the best tasting juice drink that I've encountered. It is still the one that I recommend big time. ;)
